Report

During this Alanya holiday we were looking for a small hike. I had rented a car which allowed us to explore the backcountry a bit. I had read about this canyon in a guidebook. We drove to Demirtaş and followed the pittoresque valley upstream to its end. After Tırılar the road turned into a dirt road until we reached a parking. There's a tavern and a souvenir market. We paid the small entrance fee and walked on a paved road up to the beginning of the canyon. The girls were excited and we stopped several times to take pictures on the rocks in the brook. Then the canyon becomes really impressive. Wooden bridges allow accessing it. The waters have carved out deep pools connected by small waterfalls. There are signs indicating the water depth for those who want to jump into the water. We were not prepared for that and thus resisted the tempatation. At the end of the path there is a bigger waterfall, which was rather thin at the end of summer. It must be much more impressive during snowmelt. On the way back we stopped at the Cüceler limestone caves in the rocks above Tırılar before we drove back to Alanya in order to cool down in the sea.
